Hi, I'm Nina. I was born a tiny baby, so tiny some of my parent's friends who came to visit had a hard time finding me in the cot -ok, iActually believe my mom exaggerated a bit there- but as the months went by iGrew into a chubby baby, so chubby my big brothers evaded carrying me :) here is my story
I am a regular young woman who like you struggled and still struggles with my weight. Growing up, I was not one of the chubby or plump kids, rather, I was one of the very skinny kids, so skinny that one particularly windy day my brother put rocks in my after school class bag so the whirl wind won't carry me away -lol. I'm certain he was worried my mother would kill them if they went home without me.
Anyway, I was skinny for a very very very long time. I was skinny way past my teens into my mid and late twenties then one day, I woke up and -boom- I was fat. I at that time did not consider my self fat, I just thought my body filled out and my boobs got bigger but my boobs went from big to enormous.
When I became that girl whose boobs walked into a room before she did I started getting concerned but each time I complained, everyone just said "No, you're not fat, you're just busty"... I lived with that lie and deception for a veryyyyyyyy long time that it eventually became my truth.
Let me digress a bit, I am a very stylish-fashion forward girl who likes to look good all the time. I am not necessarily judgemental, however, I can be very cynical especially when it comes to fashion so please understand my panic when my clothes stopped fitting and I started looking ridiculous in outfits I loved. I began rocking blazers to hide the fat, and though I kinda looked good and got a lot of compliments, I still
wanted to wear other stuff...You know, those skinny pants and body hugging tops, the body-con dresses and leather leggings with tank tops. I would love to to give nice excuses like, I did not know where or how to to start but the truth is, I did not have enough resolve to do the right thing and wanted the easy way out so I dabbled into weight loss pills, teas, fad diets and reckless workout till I started having fainting bouts, black outs and was rushed to the hospital where I was diagnosed with several health concerns including low blood pressure and low blood sugar thanks to the weight loss pills and teas. I quit that journey, packed my bag and moved to fat avenue where I gained two more dress sizes in two years.
I was already a UK size 14 going on 16 as some size 14 clothes had become too tight.
First, I consulted with a dietician who when he told me how much he would charge to work with me for 12weeks had me running and screaming for the life of my bank account -lol- but the more I thought about everything he told me during the consultations especially the health benefits, I weighed it against how much money I spent on frivolities and made the decision to do it so I went on the 12weeks weight loss journey.
It was a slow, painful journey as I had to make some drastic lifestyle changes, I had to rid my house of my
favorite comfort foods and snacks, fried yam and egg, stir fries, frosties, cookies, pizza, blue bunny ice cream, etc and replaced them with broccoli, asparagus, ugu (pumpkin leaves), carrots, green beans, lettuce, cabbage, garden eggs,plum, cauliflower, etc.
At that time they were yuck but now they are yummy.
I had to follow a regimented diet and work out plan, measuring my food with measuring cups and spoons
and for exercise I started by taking brisk walks around my estate 1 1/2 hours 4 to 5 times a week before I eventually started going to the gym.
I was so committed to it that I refused to cheat and in a month, I saw a tremendous change that got me so hooked, I became obsessed (that's bad tho). I started having fights with my dietitian who was angry I was over doing it as I started working out for a minimum of one hour everyday (very bad move but hey, now I know better so pleaseeeeeeeeeee don't try it at home).
By the third month I bought a treadmill, an elastic resistant band, dumbbells, workout mat, skipping rope and hired a personal trainer.
In the end I went from a UK size 14/16 to a UK size 6/8. In total I lost 20kg.
My phones started ringing off the hook as friends, family and acquaintances wanted tips and pointers which I gave but whenever stuck for answers, I always ran back to my dietitian who I had developed a friendly relationship with and he was gracious enough to always come through for me and to my pleasant surprise offered to train me pro-bono just to reward my passion and commitment.
I am a living testament that by sheer hard-work and the discipline of following a tailored diet and exercise plan, you can lose as much weight as you desire the healthy way and by maintaining a healthy lifestyle, you can keep the weight off.

Hey Nana. Wow! I remember you at 16 and now you are an 8. Its wonderful. I too have a similar story, I was a size 6 for so long and suddenly I have gone up 2 dress sizes and now fear the worst. I will keep reading your blog. Congratulations Hun.
